275,000 advanced science, research, and academic jobs are accommodated in the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, which is the new center for cutting-edge technology research and innovation in the surrounding R&D district of the city. Consistent with its science mission, the design of Zhangjiang uses advanced green technologies throughout to provide a net-zero carbon footprint environment.
The centrally located 2.3 million square meter R&D district provides a 24/7 working environment that is supported by a wide range of services, leisure and recreation amenities, and contains a significant mixed-use element in the form of retail-activated ground level uses, and upper level residential accommodations.
The R&D district is highlighted by the iconic and innovative Technology Tower which generates more than half of its own energy requirements, and on either side of it are universities. To the west is the prestigious Chinese Central Scientific Institute that shares its campus with research centers for New Materials, New Technologies, Energy, and the Environment. To the east is an Arts University that provides Humanities with which to enrich the Sciences, and it includes colleges for Inventor’s, Internet Design, Cinema Arts, and Music.
